Piece of My Heart Play is based on a book by Keith Walker. This play is based on true accounts of women who served in the Vietnam War. The story is told in their own words. The story follows six courageous women who went to Vietnam. Four of the women were nurses, one was a intelligence officer, and one was a country western singer who was booked by an unscrupulous agent to entertain the troops. Piece of My Heart Play portrays each of the women before, during and after their tour in Vietnam. They come home to a war torn nation and their struggles to make sense of a war that irrevocably changed them.
Piece of My Heart Play has been recently names “The most enduring play on Vietnam in the nation,” by The Vietnam Veterans Association. Piece of My Heart Play will be directed by Unity’s Executive Artistic Director, Kate Revnell-Smith.
