Royal Doulton Bunnykins

April 4th, 2015 by Susan Lopez

I am the innkeeper of the Brenham House Bed and Breakfast.  I am all about the pretties on a table.  I have a passion for china, crystal and silver.  For some people a beautiful table is just a thing of the past.  It doesn’t have to be.  I find everyone loves a table set with linens that includes a beautiful table scape.  When it comes to my grandchildren, I really want a great table setting.  I want my grandchildren to have table manners and appreciate the effort it takes to use the finer things on a table.  Did you know that Royal Doulton Bunnykins were used by Princess Margaret and Princess Elizabeth, as a child?  The Royal Doulton Bunnykins pattern was introduced in 1934.  Royal Doulton is an English company that produces tableware and collectables dating from 1815.  Royal Doulton had a general manager, in the 1930’s, who asked his daughter to create a child friendly design for a nursery series.  His daughter Barbara created drawings of bunnies, in almost every family situation.

These are pictures of my Royal Doulton Bunnykins, for my sweet Bunnykin!  These are just some of the many different patterns you will find when looking for your Bunnykins pattern.  Oh, the stories that can be created from the scenes on the dishes.  What fun a small child will have during mealtime, as you describe the different scenes.  Here is my sweet Bunnykin Jentry.

My Sweet Bunnykins

The Royal Doulton Bunnykins line was an instant success.  Rabbits were dressed in human clothes, in beautiful English country scenes.  Royal Doulton Bunnykins that are signed by Barbara Vernon are quite rare and highly expensive.  The Royal Doulton Bunnykins china makes a great gift for Chiristmas, birthdays, and Baptism gifts.  Twice a year Round Top, Texas has a hugh Antique Fair.  It takes place in the fall and again in the spring.  You may be able to find your Royal Doulton Bunnykins.  They are stamped on the bottom of the china.   Don’t forget the yard and garage sales.  One person’s junk may just be your treasure!
