Toubin Park, Downtown Brenham

July 30th, 2013 by Susan Lopez

Toubin Park, downtown Brenham, Texas is a lovely pocket park.  Alleyways in the downtown have been turned into small parks, for you to enjoy.  As a tourist you can walk through the parks, sit down and rest, or use your computers or smart phones, with the city’s free wireless internet!  Toubin Park, downtown Brenham is located at 208 South Park Street, Brenham, Texas.  This park beautifully landscaped tells the early history of Brenham, Texas.  There you will see a State Archeological Landmark.  A large historic cistern was unearthed and put on display.  Large cisterns like the one displayed at Toubin Park, were built in the late 1800’s.  They were use to collect rain water and enable the towns people to put out fires, in downtown Brenham.  The cisterns ran under Brenham streets.  This just shows how progressive Brenham, Texas was for it’s time.  There are no other Texas cities known to have installed public cisterns or provide public services so early.
